Algenuity's friends at A4F in Portugal are organizing an excellent Microalgae Biotechnology Advanced Course in Lisbon, Portugal from November 18th to 22nd later this year.

The Programme of the course will include the following topics:
The importance of the growth medium in the cultivation of microalgae (Edgar Santos, A4F); Growth tools: estimation and productivity assessment (Liliana Rodolfi, UNIFI, Italy); Growth curve determination, calculation of the duplication time and growth rate; Correlation between cellular counts and optical density (Luis Costa, Edgar Santos and Joana Silva, A4F); Genetic tools and microalgae (special attention to the detection of contaminants) (Saul Purton, UCL, UK); Extraction and further amplification of 16S RNA from microalgae samples (Joana Silva, A4F). Culturing technologies (Natascia Biondi, UNIFI, Italy); UNIFI unique experience in this field will be discussed.; Contaminated cultures and productivity: Haematococcus as a case study (Sammy Boussiba, BGU, Israel); Microscopic observation of several contaminants frequently found in microalgae ecosystems (Luis Costa, Edgar Santos and Joana Silva, A4F). Harvesting and processing of microalgae biomass (Luis Costa, A4F and Alberto Reis, LNEG, Lisbon).
